Wild Lavender

Maritime Lavender is a wild lavender lavendula stoechas also known as Butterfly Lavender for the small butterfly-like wings found at the end of the corolla. In some regions of France, it is also known as Topped Lavender.

Unlike English Lavender, French Lavender, is not very well known to the general public. However, it is easily found in areas of the Pyrenees where the soil is acidic. The small bush is densely covered with branches reaching a maximum height of 1 meter.

 The cylindrical flowers give off a strong odour of turpentine when pressed between the fingers. French Lavender blooms from March to early May, after Rosemary.
